Both of these independent contractor positions will require work at night, weekends and/or on holiday. We ask our researchers to move copy on tight deadlines with no room for error. Our international team of researchers and editors work from home, sending news alerts out to our clients via our website and subscription services.
The editor will research, write, and edit news alerts, using a taxonomy-based system for categorizing and filing alerts. He/she will edit/proofread risk assessments and should be familiar with risk rating guidelines. Applicants should have 5+ years of experience writing or editing for a newspaper, magazine, or other publication. Experience reporting and editing breaking hard news is strongly desired. Excellent English communication skills, strong attention to detail, and a strong interest in international affairs/politics/cultures are a must. Travel/foreign living experience and the ability to speak and write a language secondary to English is are plusses.
The researcher will gather and submit stories about events affecting travel using social media and niche and traditional news sources. He/she will work independently to rewrite stories and write headlines and will use a taxonomy-based system to categorize and file stories. Good news judgment, ability to navigate social media tools, and ability to scan multiple RSS feeds as part of internet research are musts. Candidates should have a background in journalism, writing, or editing and knowledge of AP style. Travel/foreign living experience and the ability to speak and write a language secondary to English is are plusses.
