BUDGET, UX/UI (not including development): $5-15k, based on previous work. Initial concept was to modify an existing theme (acumen for magento) for budget purposes, but Im on board if a new design makes more sense. This will be a UX job first, with some clean UI polish on top. Not looking for a heavily designed site. Looking for detail. Right down to the language of the error messages.. Deliverables would be wireframes, design psds, annotations and very very detailed direction for my devs, who cannot improvise.
My business sells rather expensive commodity equipment to businesses. its nothing glamorous but we have good product at good prices are doing relatively well. I'm looking to make some big changes to take things to the next level.
The store runs magento 1.7 community. It's adequate but the original design is not well thought out and is too limiting. I have contacted some well known agencies, but the cost has been way out of my league, so this is plan B.
I will either take an existing Magento theme, one that is proven to be well developed, fast, with a good UX backbone, and modify it for my business. Or, if you think it's best to start from scratch and can deliver within budget, I will do that.
The job will be significant, so I am definitely looking for someone who has a strong UX background and will make smart, well considered decisions, based not only on experience but also based on my analytics data. There will also be UI work so the person must be comfortable in that realm.
This will go well beyond stock shopping cart into something that is search oriented and something that provides a lot of information and resources. Some features may not even roll out at first but must be planned for now.
I will always be in need of a good UX/Designer to continue to advance the site so potential for long term relationship is definitely real, even expected.
SOME FEATURES TO EXPECT
Search First Approach:
Search engine will be a central part of the new design. Not only will search field need to be enhanced and integrated, but new search results pages, notifications, error messages will need to be created.
Tablet and mini tablet friendly
In the interest of keeping this job focused I am leaning towards unresponsive, but still 100% tablet usable. If you have experience designing responsive sites, I'm definitely listening, but I fear it will just be too much this time around.
Layered Menu Change
Stock Magento layered menu to be redesigned as a checkbox based layered menu that is more intuitive while also being designed for mouse and touch.
Articles/Blog/Resource for Learning..integrated into site on relevant product pages.
lots more: Clients & case studies Section/Dealer, wholesale section/videos/reviews/improved checkout/. I've outlined the project in great detail, but really need an expert to bring it all together and then some.
